Boston.com reported November 5, 2009: Special panel says state in midst of ‘epidemic’ of OxyContin and heroin use. Demonstrating the need for successful drug rehabs, staff reporter, John R. Ellement wrote, “Abuse of OxyContin and heroin in Massachusetts has reached epidemic levels and must be attacked with the same fervor now being directed toward controlling the H1N1 flu virus, a special state commission reported today.”
Effective drug rehabs are necessary more than ever across the US to help turn around this ‘epidemic.’ The idea that prescription drugs are not harmful is untrue. People need to be education on the dangers of Oxycontin. Unlike aspirin or acetaminophen, oxycodone does not have a threshold to its effectiveness. The more one takes, the more relief it provides. Or, unfortunately, once hooked, the more one takes, the more one attempts to get a better high.
